COYL Program for California

With the California School COYL Relocation Program, Southwest Gas will move the gas meter adjacent to the school structure and replace the COYL with facilities that are owned and maintained by Southwest Gas.

Why Would I Want to Move the Gas Meter?

You may not know it but the natural gas line running between the meter and your school (COYL) is your responsibility. This means it’s up to you to have the line inspected for leaks and pay for repairs if an unsafe condition is found. Having the meter moved gives that responsibility to Southwest Gas.

How Can the COYL Relocation Program Help?

  • Southwest Gas will offer to relocate the gas meter adjacent to the school structures and replace the COYL with facilities that are owned and maintained by Southwest Gas.
  • The existing master-meter will be replaced with individual meters adjacent to each structure.
  • SWG will own and maintain the replaced facilities up to the outlet of each meter, eliminating the need for the customer to maintain the natural gas facilities and incur related expenses. The customer will still own, and be responsible for, the houseline piping downstream of the meter and extending into the school structures.

What’s Involved in a Meter Relocation?

The meter relocation includes the replacement of primary COYL. Gas service may be unavailable during the relocation process. While it’s never convenient to have your gas service shut off, it’s necessary to facilitate the relocation. We do our very best to make this easy and convenient for our customers, and the service is usually only off for a short period of time.
